Punjab & Sind Bank, a Government of India Undertaking, has released an official notification for Lateral Recruitment of Local Bank Officers (LBO) in Junior Management Grade Scale I (JMGS-I). This is a golden opportunity for experienced banking professionals across India, including Assam, to join a reputed public sector bank. A total of 1000 vacancies have been announced across 16 states/UTs, with 50 vacancies specifically reserved for Assam. The online application window opened on 31st March 2026 and will close on 20th April 2026.

About Punjab & Sind Bank

Punjab & Sind Bank was established in 1908 and is currently functioning as a Government of India undertaking. The bank has a strong nationwide presence and is known for its focus on financial inclusion and customer-centric banking. This lateral recruitment drive aims to strengthen its officer-level workforce in states where local language proficiency is a priority.

Vacancy Details

The total vacancy is 1000 posts for Local Bank Officers in JMGS-I grade. For Assam, 50 vacancies have been announced with mandatory language proficiency in Assamese, Bodo, or Garo. The state-wise category-wise breakup for Assam is as follows: SC – 7, ST – 3, OBC – 13, EWS – 5, UR – 22, Total – 50. PwD reservations: HI – 1, OC – 1.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (as on 01.03.2026): The minimum age is 20 years and maximum age is 30 years. Candidates must have been born not earlier than 02.03.1996 and not later than 01.03.2006 (both dates inclusive).

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
  • PwD: 10 years
  • Persons affected by 1984 riots: 5 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: 5 years

Educational Qualification: A graduation degree (in any discipline) from a university recognized by the Government of India is mandatory. Candidates must possess a valid mark sheet/degree certificate confirming graduation at the time of registration.

Work Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 18 months of post-qualification branch experience as an officer in any Scheduled Commercial Bank or any Regional Rural Bank listed in the Second Schedule of the Reserve Bank of India. The experience cutoff date is 20.04.2026.

Language Proficiency: For Assam vacancies, proficiency (reading, writing, and understanding) in Assamese, Bodo, or Garo is mandatory. A language test will be conducted for provisionally selected candidates. Candidates who have passed their 10th or 12th standard with the specified local language as a subject will be exempted from this test.

Pay Scale & Emoluments

Selected officers will be placed in JMGS-I scale: ₹48480-2000/7-62480-2340/2-67160-2680/7-85920. LBOs will join at the initial JMGS-I scale + 3 increments as per the applicable Joint Note at the time of recruitment. Additional allowances including DA, HRA / Leased Accommodation, CCA, Medical, LTC, and Terminal Benefits will be provided as per bank rules.

Probation Period & Service Bond

The probation period for JMGS-I officers is 6 months. Candidates will be required to execute a service bond for 3 years. The bond amount will be equivalent to 3 months' gross salary (initial basic + DA + Special Allowance + DA on Special Allowance). Candidates who resign before the bond period will be required to pay the bond amount.

Career Path

Selected LBOs will be placed in the general cadre and will follow the bank's standard promotion policy. However, they will not be eligible for inter-state transfers, postings to Controlling Offices (ZO/HO), special branches (CBB, Currency Chest, ARB, RCC, etc.), or deputation to other organizations until promotion to SMGS-IV or completion of 12 years of service, whichever is earlier.

CIBIL Score Requirement

Candidates must maintain a healthy credit history with a minimum CIBIL score of 650 or above at the time of joining. A CIBIL report from the bank where the candidate holds an account must be submitted during Document Verification.

election Process

The selection will be conducted in the following stages:

  1. Written Test: The online written test will have 4 sections totaling 120 questions and 120 marks, with a total duration of 120 minutes:
    • English Language: 30 questions, 30 marks, 30 minutes
    • Banking Knowledge: 40 questions, 40 marks, 40 minutes
    • General Awareness/Economy: 30 questions, 30 marks, 30 minutes
    • Computer Aptitude: 20 questions, 20 marks, 20 minutes
    Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for General/EWS, 35% for Reserved Categories (in each section as well as total).
  2. Screening: Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in the written test.
  3. Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. Venue: New Delhi (unless otherwise specified). Interview carry 30% weightage in the final merit.
  4. Language Proficiency Test: Mandatory for candidates without proof of having studied the local language up to 10th/12th standard.
  5. Final Merit List: Prepared state-wise and category-wise based on Written Test (70%) + Personal Interview (30%) scores, converted to a combined score out of 100.
